Met die nieuwe Special delen we onze liefde voor Rome, maar óók de meest romantische plekken in de Eeuwige Stad. Een bezoek aan Il giardino dei Tarocchi nabij Capalbio is dan ook meer dan de moeite waard.In eerste instantie is het vreemd en klopt het niet met het beeld dat we met z’n allen hebben van Toscane. Het is nogal surrealistisch om te midden van de heuvels in het zuiden van Toscane een fantasietuin te bezoeken waarin het krioelt van beelden die soms 22 meter hoog zijn. U moet dan niet denken aan de klassieke beelden zoals David van Michelangelo. Ik doel hier op beelden gemaakt van gietbeton en met de hand verstevigd met vlechtijzer van verschillende diktes. Ik doel op een beeldenpark geïnspireerd door Park Güell in Barcelona van architect Antoni Gaudí. En als u weet dat de uitvoering meer dan vijftien jaar heeft geduurd, slaat de verwondering om in bewondering. Een bezoek aan Il giardino dei Tarocchi nabij Capalbio is dan ook meer dan de moeite waard.

Unusually wet spring and summer sees Italian vintners’ expected production slip 15 per cent - falling behind FranceWine producers in Italy are facing their worst grape harvest for more than half a century due to an unusually wet spring and summer.Italy is normally the world’s biggest wine producer but the poor harvest, which has just started in some regions, means that the accolade is likely to go to France this year.Italian vintners are expected to produce 900 million gallons (41m hectolitres) of wine this autumn, a 15 per cent drop compared to last year, according to Coldiretti, the country’s main agricultural organisation.France will easily supercede that amount, with a forecast production of just over 1 billion gallons, according to the French agriculture ministry.
