Le Marche Properties For Sale: 18th Century Mill, in need of restoration, Camerino

See on Scoop.it - Italian Properties - Italiaans Onroerend Goed

This 18th century mill is situated in a beautiful and peaceful valley just 5 minutes from the university town of Camerino, an historic centre in Le Marche. Unlike most mills, this has stunning views up and down the valley and circa 5000 sqm of useable garden. The mill is rectangular in shape covering around 200 sqm on 2 floors, allowing for a 3 or 4 bedrooms, with many of the original features still in place, such as the old beams and terra cotta flooring. The walls are in good shape but the rest of the house requires full restoration for which plans, but not building permission, exist.

Salades saai?

Panoram Italia - A Lovers’ Walk: Hiking in the Cinque Terre

See on Scoop.it - Good Things From Italy - Le Cose Buone d’Italia

Housed in the heart of the Cinque Terre National Park lies the Via dell’Amore, one of the most famous pathways in Italy. This “lovers’ pathway,” just one kilometre in length and situated high above the sea, links Riomaggiore and Manarola, two of the Cinque Terre’s five coastal towns.

For decades, the Via dell’Amore, coupled with the area’s breathtaking natural beauty, has lured lovers, hikers and Italy enthusiasts from around the world to this picturesque corner of Liguria.

Built between 1926 and 1928, the Via dell’Amore was born out of necessity and not at all with love in mind. As workers blasted through the rock in order to upgrade the railway line, they found it necessary to build a gunpowder warehouse safely away from the two towns.

Thus, they created a pathway from both villages that lead to a central storage area. After the railway was finished, locals rallied to reinforce the pathway, cover part of it, and keep it open as a second link between the two very isolated villages.

The story goes that, apart from aiding in commercial dealings, the new pathway also made it easier for young men and women from Riomaggiore and Manarola to meet and fall in love. Thus the pathway came to be known as the Via dell’Amore.

Panoram Italia - Roman NoteBook: Six places to eat, drink and visit as the Romans do

See on Scoop.it - Good Things From Italy - Le Cose Buone d’Italia

Forget about the Pantheon and the Roman Forum. If you are visiting Rome for the second or even the third time, you may want to discover a bit of the real Roman way of life. That’s exactly what I did on last Easter break when I was invited to the eternal city by a Roman friend of mine.

Carlo Bilotti’s Museum and the Aranciera di Villa Borghese

Modern or contemporary art museums are hard to find in Rome. It was partly by chance that I ended up visiting the Museo Carlo Bilotti, a small museum located in the Aranciera di Villa Borghese, the most prestigious and beautiful park of the Eternal City where most roman couples and families come for an evening walk. I originally went there to see the temporary exhibition ‘Una Storia Privata’ which displayed some of the most famous Italian contemporary photographers; yet, I was happy to find out that I was just on time for a guided tour of the permanent collection dedicated to Carlo Billotti.

The romance of the isle of Capri Italy

See on Scoop.it - Good Things From Italy - Le Cose Buone d’Italia

Isle of Capri Italy is one of the once-in-a-lifetime places in Italy. A calm, care- and carfree island 80 minutes boatride off the hectic traffic in Naples.

The ferry trip it itself is stunningly beautiful heading out for the rocky outcrops in a sparkling sea with Naples’ skyline and the Vesuvius volcano over your right shoulder and the Sorrento peninsula on the left. Getting closer you’ll see the Faraglioni limestone crags and the steep green slopes before the boat docks in Marina Grande. From there you can take another boat out to the Blue Grotto or take the funicular up to Capri Town.[…] Capri town was packed with classy restaurants and cafes, posh hotels, designer boutiques and souvenir shops selling everything limoncello, where wealthy tourists were airing their big hats and gold watches. A great place for anthropological field studies in hedonistic lifestyles.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries Capri became a popular resort for artists, writers, actors and other celebrities. Graham Greene had a house on the island and in ‘The Lotus Eater’ Somerset Maughan gave a poignant description of an English banker who traded his tedious life in London for 20 years in beauty and luxury on Capri. He ended up living among the animals in a barn, having learned the lesson of not making unmeditated, hasty decisions you cannot really afford.

Someone who managed to finance the Capri passion was the Swedish physician Axel Munthe. He built the celebrated Villa San Michele on the island and willed it to the Swedish nation. The complex still functions as a museum and cultural center hosting concerts and visiting Swedish scholars.

If I ever go back to the isle of Capri Italy, I will definitely take the bus up to the inland town of Anacapri and walk up to the villa. But then I won’t go back to the Blue Grotto. Daytrippers – like dreamers and bankers – can’t have it all.

Laat die Nutelleria maar komen - DitIsItalie.nl

See on Scoop.it - Good Things From Italy - Le Cose Buone d’Italia

See on Scoop.it - Good Things From Italy - Le Cose Buone d’Italia
