De kunst-en cultuursector wordt daarbij ook niet gespaard. Eén van de maatregelen die zijn regering trof, betrof de kunsthandel. Dus werd een regel uitgevaardigd waarbij de aankoop van kunstwerken boven de duizend euro niet meer cash kan geregeld worden.

Bovendien moet de galerie inlichtingen verstrekken over de identiteit van de koper en kan ze onaangekondigde bezoeken van de fiscusambtenaren verwachten. Al bij een eerste controle ontdekten die voor meer dan 200 miljoen niet gedeclareerde inkomsten. Maar alles heeft zijn keerzijde want het blijkt dat diezelfde kunsthandel net kan profiteren van vermogende kopers die meer en meer investeren in vooral schilderijen en sculpturen van klassieke modernen. Deze belangstelling enerzijds is natuurlijk positief maar de met argusogen toekijkende fiscus zet anderzijds kwaad bloed bij de kunsthandel die een groeiende markt afgetopt ziet door het blaffen van de financiële waakhonden.
