Venice, Italy: A Boat Tour of the Lagoon

Cradled by the lagoon, north of Venice, are a string of low-lying islands which make a nice escape from the hubbub of the city. Water taxis zip quickly from island to island, while regular ferryboats connect Venice with neighboring lagoon communities in a more relaxed and less expensive way. We visit Murano, known for glass, and Burano, with its lace and photogenic pastel houses.
