Perfect Summer Red
What is the perfect summer red? This question does not have a single answer but in my opinion a summer red should be fruity, unoaked, light, easy to drink and of course taste good. Soft, mellow tannins are beneficial, too. If your red wine follows these requirements then it’s perfect for summer. Recently, I found my perfect summer red. These days temperatures in Munich reached almost 30°C (86°F) and red wine was often not an option these days.
Recently I tried a red wine from Villa Merighi, a small, organic winery from Veneto, Italy and thought immediately that the wine was ideal for summer. The winery was founded in the 1960s by Livio Fugatti and is located in San Giorgio in Salici, just outside of Verona, the city of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
On 30 hectares Villa Merighi grows a variety of grapes that are mostly used to make Bianco di Custoza, Bardolino and Bardolino Chiaretto.
