A Tuscan Treasure ext to Amarone and Barolo, Brunello di Montalcino is considered one of the greatest wines of Italy.
Brunello di Montalcino was granted DOC status in 1966 along with 7 other wines. The wine was upgraded to DOCG in 1980. The majority of Brunello di Montalcino gets exported to the United States (20%) and to Germany (14%). The latest three vintages in the table of excellent Brunello di Montalcino DOCG vintages includes 2006, 2004 and 1997.
Knowing that the 2006 vintage received the rating excellent I was looking very much forward to finally try the wine. I’ve previously reviewed the 2001 vintage of Tenute Loacker’s Brunello di Montalcino.
