(ANSA) - Giglio Island, September 16 - The submerged side of the Costa Concordia has a “major deformation” detected by cameras and instruments after the operation to lift the cruise ship upright started Monday, Civil Protection Department Chief Franco Gabrielli said Monday.
Gabrielli said that it will only be possible to assess the extent of the damage when the so-called parbuckling operation is complete.
He added that the operation, which started at 9:00 local time and is expected to take 12 hours, was progressing “according to forecasts”.
