Italian fashion house Tod’s has named Alessandra Facchinetti as the new creative director for its women’s collections.
The appointment of Facchinetti as creative director comes almost after a year of designer Derek Lam quitting Tod’s. Lam served as the creative director for the brand since 2006
“Alessandra Facchinetti is a very talented woman,” Tod’s Group president, Diego Della Valle, told Vogue, branding her Italian descent an “added asset.” “Her passion for detail and her dedication to the research of materials and manufacturing make her perfect for our brand, which has always been very attentive to quality and Made in Italy.”
Facchinetti will start at the Italian brand March onwards and her first collection will be unveiled at the Milan Fashion Week in September 2013.
“As an Italian designer, I feel very honored to take up such an important role for a brand that - with the highest quality and refinement - helps to keep up the prestige of Made in Italy in the world,” Facchinetti said. She also announced her departure from Uniqueness, a brand she co-founded with Italian label Pinko in 2011.
She has previously worked with brands like Valentino, Miu Miu, Moncler, and Gucci.
Facchinetti’s move to Tod’s has created a buzz among fashion bloggers and they took to Twitter to express their excitement.
“She’s back!,” Melania Chavarria posted, according to Reuters. “Big plans to further expand luxury brand,” another user, Natasha Cowan, said.
